Valley Of Fire Closed For Next Two Weeks
Were you looking to take a nice hike inside of Valley Of Fire? Well if you were planning to do so between now and the middle of the month, we’ve got some bad news. Valley Of Fire closed its gate to visitors. But it’s not forever.
Everything from cars to weddings, pedestrians to campers won’t be allowed in from December 2nd through December 15th. Burros and other animals are, we assume, still allowed to live there.
Why Is Valley Of Fire Closed Right Now?
How does a state park just close? Well, the park isn’t a park with infrastructure, and right now the park’s infrastructure is taking a beating. Increased visitors, especially since COVID had everyone checking out everything outdoors, has beaten up roads, chipped away at campgrounds and the restrooms? Well, you know. They’ve seen better days.
So the state will be taking the next two weeks with the Valley Of Fire closed to public to improve and fix everything they can. There is also a new visitor center and getting the roads around that ready to go is a paramount mission.
Leave No Trace
For people that are new to the whole outdoors, camping thing, there is one thing you’ll hear again and again: leave no trace. With Valley Of Fire closed for things that are out of visitor control (cars are heavy, there’s nothing you can do about that), there are other things that visitors can do to extend the life and enjoyment of the area.
“Leave no trace” means not to change the ecosystem of the area whatsoever. Don’t damage the infrastructure, don’t step on plants, don’t leave food or wrappers behind.
Valley Of Fire State Park is an absolute jewel. We can’t wait to get back in and enjoy it again.
