Convicted Fraud Michele Fiore Gets More Bad News
It has been one heck of a year for former Las Vegas city councilwoman Michele Fiore. Earlier in the year she was accused by the feds of pilfering money meant for charity and a fallen Las Vegas Metro officer’s statue, then she was found guilty in short order by a jury, then she lost her income.
It turns out that income won’t be coming back any time soon.
Michele Fiore Suspended Without Pay Extended
At the time of the case, Michele Fiore was a Justice Of The Peace in Nye County. She was being paid throughout her fraud trial but once she was found guilty (in a trial that featured several high profile donors including Governor Joe Lombardo), the Nevada Commission On Judicial Discipline pulled her pay during her suspension.
This obviously didn’t sit well with Fiore, who claims the she was falsely accused and that the entire trial was a political witch hunt. She has said she is appealing the verdict although her original lawyer has withdrawn from her case. She is set to be sentenced on March 10th.
Now she is appealing over the suspension of her pay with the Nevada Supreme Court.
What Did She Do?
Michele Fiore was found guilty by a federal jury on seven counts of fraud. It all revolves what was done with money raised for a memorial.
Fiore had raised over $70,000 to pay for a statue and memorial for fallen Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Alyn Beck. Instead, investigators found that the money was spent on anything but. From her daughter’s wedding to plastic surgery, vacations and more.
Several testified in the case including high level executives and even Fiore’s own ex-husband. The then lawyer of Michele Fiore claimed that her and her daughter’s accounting was sloppy, but not criminal.
We will see what an appeal holds for Fiore but that won’t help her checking account in the short term.
