Las Vegas Mountain Biker Takes Nasty Spill On G Thang Trail
“Ain’t nuthin’ but a G Thang, baby!” When Dr. Dre wrote that bar, chances are he didn’t have mountain biking in mind. But that’s exactly what was running through the mind of one Las Vegas mountain biker that took a pretty nasty spill on Saturday.
The accident happened on the Blue Diamond “G Thang” trail. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue, the Las Vegas mountain biker fell down a wash around 10 feet and was in need of assistance for a very fractured ankle.
So, Metro Search and Rescue took to the sky to get help to the busted biker, who was treated on-site to get him well enough to airlift him to help and towards a local hospital.
Excuse Me, The Las Vegas Mountain Biker Was Injured On G Thang?
Really the story is less about the mountain biker (who thankfully got the care he needed) and more about the name of the trail. Wait? There’s a “G Thang” trail? Why, yes.
The G Thang trail is located across State Route 159 from the beautiful and quiet town of Blue Diamond which is nestled south of Red Rock Canyon. The two mile single track trail has a wild 739 feet drop over the course and is considered to be a pretty difficult trail.
There are several other mountain biking trails in the area as well including Free Chicken, Salty Dogs, and our favorite: Your Mom.
Mountain bikers are a different breed. There are people that buy a “mountain bike,” and there are mountain bikers. They have ice water in their veins, are always seeking a thrill and obviously have a sense of humor.
If you are thinking of getting into the sport, first we must suggest you don’t break your ankle. But if you want to get a good start, Two Wheeled Wanderer has a great article that breaks down the best mountain biking in the city from beginner to advanced that is worth a look.
