Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Social Media Return
After stepping away from social media in 2020, Meghan Markle made a comeback this year with a video post of her running towards the beach and writing “2025” in the sand.
Her Instagram account @meghan already has 1.1M followers only after a day of creating the account. Naturally, the internet went wild. But why now? Was it a strategic move? A personal decision? Or did Meghan just miss looking at her posts and seeing how many likes and comments it already garnered?
Whether you’re Team Sussex or can’t be bothered by Prince Harry and Meghan’s life, one thing’s for sure: Meghan’s return has been anything but low-key.
With Love, Meghan
The return to Instagram seemed to be a strategic move since her next post is the trailer to her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.
She captioned the trailer with, “I have been so excited to share this with you! I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it. Wishing you all a fantastic new year! Thanks to our amazing crew and the team @netflix. Beyond grateful for the support – and fun! As ever, Meghan.” It seems her comment section is turned off, understandably so since the comments on Netflix’s YouTube page are brutal.
One commenter sarcastically wrote, “Netflix, you are incredible! You spent $100 million just for me to enjoy the comment section on a show I’ll never watch! Wow! That is some dedication to quality entertainment.” Another commenter also took a dig at her by using her dialogue from the trailer, “’I’ve always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it…’ Like how you elevated yourself from an ordinary actress to a Royal?”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Social Media Presence
In 2021, Prince Harry said in an interview with Good Morning America that they are not done with social media after stepping away from it because of the harassment they constantly experienced. “We will revisit social media when it feels right for us — perhaps when we see more meaningful commitments to change or reform — but right now we’ve thrown much of our energy into learning about this space and how we can help.”
Before her current Instagram account @meghan, Meghan Markle created @AmericanRivieraOrchard in March 2024. The bio reads, “by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.”
But there were no new posts on the account since March last year.
The pair also had a shared Instagram account, @SussexRoyal in 2019 but was discontinued the next year when they announced they were stepping back from their royal duties, according to AP News.
Before marrying Prince Harry, Markle had her own social media accounts, which she deleted prior to their wedding, per People.
