Deion Sanders Allegedly Eyeing Raiders Head Coach Role, Brady and Vrabel Steer Conversation
Well, it looks like the Raiders are not looking at Deion Sanders to be the next head coach despite Sanders allegedly being interested in the position, a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal states.
The organization has interviewed other candidates for the vacancy, the Review-Journal said. Tom Brady is taking on a big part as the Raiders look for their next head coach as well.
The NFL great, now owning a piece of the team, will help decide who follows Antonio Pierce. Las Vegas needs to fill both head coach and general manager spots after firing GM Tom Telesco and Head Coach Antonio Pierce.
“Mark Davis is very passionate about leaning on Tom Brady for thoughts—especially when they want to go pick a quarterback at some point here. Whether that means the draft or that means free agency, if it means the quarterbacks that are on their roster right now,” said Dianna Russini to The Athletic.
Mike Vrabel looks like the front-runner. His history with Brady on the Patriots gives him a leg up over other names in the mix. Their time winning together in New England might tip the scales, CBS Sports reports.
In an interesting turn, CBS Sports connected Colorado’s Deion Sanders to the job. This talk kicked off because his son Shedeur, a hot QB prospect for 2025, wants to suit up for the Raiders. However, Raiders Resistance reported that “Raiders DO NOT want Sanders despite his ‘interest’ to coach an NFL team. In this case, Sanders is NOT on the Raiders radar to begin with. So it cancels out completely as Vegas tends to stay on course with its candidates for a HC job.”
The draft strategy is up in the air. If the Raiders want Shedeur Sanders, they’ll have to move up. It’s a risky move that could make or break the team’s future.
Brady’s input won’t just influence the coaching and manager positions. But his thoughts on the next Raiders QB – whether they grab one in the draft or free agency — will also be taken into account. His years playing the position make his opinion count.
Other teams tried and failed to copy New England’s magic. But things might work out differently with Vrabel, who knows that winning system inside and out.
The new coach needs to mesh with a new general manager too. Finding two leaders who can work together makes this whole thing trickier.
