Last night the 74th Emmy Awards took place. It was television’s biggest night with stars flocking to Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Red carpets were walked, awards were handed out, and the annual “In Memoriam” video played.

Every year it seems as though the Emmys, Oscars, Grammys and Tony Awards have to contend with the difficult task of naming everyone. But every year, it seems as though there’s a name (or several) that are missing from the list. It’s tough keeping track of everyone that passes away over the course of a year. But viewers have an eagle eye and are quick to tweet their dissatisfaction as soon as the segment airs.

This isn’t the first time

In 2018, actor Adam West was omitted from the Oscar’s telecast’s “In Memoriam” segment. Sure, he was Batman on the television adaptation of the show, but he was also in over 50 films. That same year actor John Mahoney was omitted. You know him as “Martin Crane” in the show Frasier, but he starred 30 movies including Say AnythingReality Bites and Moonstruck. No mention.

In 2021, not only was former Glee star Naya Rivera not in the Oscar’s “In Memoriam” (she had roles in eight films), but she was also omitted from the Grammy’s segment as well, despite being nominated for two Grammy awards for her work with the Glee cast.

Obviously segments can only be so long, but if you can’t get it right, maybe it’s best to not do it at all. At the very least check the list of prior winners and nominees and make sure you have them covered!

Well, we are not one to take this laying down. We’ve whipped up an Emmy’s “In Memoriam” of our own that covers all of those who were not honored, including one who omitted for good reason. If we missed any, don’t blame us.

  • Olivia Newton-John

    Olivia Newton-John

Olivia was quite possibly the biggest omission from this year’s “In Memoriam”. She is a Daytime Emmy Award winner from 1999 for “Outstanding Original Song” and acted in many television shows.

  • Norm MacDonald

    Norm MacDonald

Easily one of our favorite comedians of all time. But, we give the Emmy’s a pass on this one. Norm was included in last year’s “In Memoriam” segment despite dying only a few days before the show.

  • Denise Dowse

    Denise Dowse

Her television roles have been many. She played “Vice-Principal Yvonne Teasley” in Beverly Hills, 90210 for the entire 1990’s. Plus Denise had roles in a myriad of other amazing shows including Full HouseMurphy BrownTouched By An AngelBuffy The Vampire SlayerNewsRadioStep By StepSister Sister, Party Of Five and was even on Seinfeld twice as two different characters.

  • Joe E. Tata

    Joe E Tata

Yet another sign of disrespect for Beverly Hills, 90210 veterans. Joe played the owner of the “Peach Pit” for hundreds of episodes. He also had a resume that went back to the 1960’s on Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. Literally dozens of shows, but no mention. For shame.

  • Pat Carroll

    Pat Carroll

Here’s how egregious Pat Carroll’s omission was. See this picture? In front of an Emmy banner. She won an Emmy in 1956, appeared on many television shows for decades. She was also the voice of “Ursula” in The Little Mermaid which had a Disney+ spinoff. Also, HER PICTURE IS IN FRONT OF THE EMMY BANNER AND SHE WON ONE. Cmon.

  • Mary Alice

Here she is with a frickin’ Emmy in her hand. Mary Alice won the Emmy for “Outstanding Supporting Actress” for her work on the series I’ll Fly Away. She was also “Lettie” in A Different World back in the late 1980’s. Just check the winners list, Emmys. Cmon.

  • Taurean Blacque

Taurean played “Detective Neal Washington” in the 1980’s hit series Hill Street Blues. He was even nominated for an Emmy. But he didn’t get mentioned. Cmon.

  • Larry Storch

    Larry Storch

The man lived til he was 99! He was in a slew of television variety shows, was nominated for an Emmy for his role as “Corporal Randolph Agarn” in F Troop back in the 1960’s, did a ton of cartoon voiceovers too! Any mention? Nope. He was nominated, Emmys. CMON.

  • Lenny Von Dohlen

    Lenny Von Dohlen

Lenny got his start on Kent State back in 1981. That show won an Emmy. He also had roles in Twin PeaksPsychMiami ViceWalker, Texas Ranger, Chicago Hope, and even as recently as playing on the Fox series The Orville.

  • Maggie Peterson

    Maggie Peterson

Did they have someone under 30 come up with the list this year? Maggie Peterson played “Charlene” in the legendary The Andy Griffith Show. She was also on a slew of other productions including Love American Style, Green Acres, Gomer Pyle USMC and The Odd Couple

  • Charles Siebert

He has a credits list a mile long, and was on 151 episodes of Trapper John, M.D., which is exactly 151 episodes more than most of us have been on anything. Yet, no mention.

  • Philip Baker Hall

    Philip Baker Hall

Philip Baker Hall had 8 television credits. In 1994. The guy has been on every show from 3rd Rock From The Sun to M*A*S*H, T.J. Hooker to The Newsroom. One of those actors where, you might not know the name, you certainly know his face.

  • David Birney

    David Birney

David (left) was quite literally the star of Serpico which aired on NBC in the mid 1970s. He also had a ton of appearances on shows like St. Elsewhere, Fantasy Island, Hawaii Five-O and Murder, She Wrote. TV movies too!

  • Scoey Mitchell

Finally, Scoey Mitchell. He may have had more success as a game show panelist than a television show star. He was on Tattletales and Match Game frequently in the 1970’s, and appeared on a ton of television shows including Get SmartThe Carol Burnett Show and appeared several times on Rhoda.
