Happy ‘National School Pictures Day’ From 102.7 VGS (PICTURES)

I'm telling you, these random national holidays get more and more fun as we shred through the year. Today is National School Pictures Day! Aka a day to share and celebrate all of the super cute, sometimes funny, nearly always awkward school pictures we all endured and will carry with us for the rest of our lives.

According to National Today, "National school photography provider Lifetouch declared the first-ever National School Picture Day happening on the second Thursday of September in 2019." It's always during the second week of September so that the holiday always falls right at the beginning of school. The day always hits right around the time that schools are scheduling their official picture days. I know my former elementary school was one of those schools that had their picture day today for the students. I think that's such an exciting way to celebrate the festivities with current students as well. They deserve to celebrate this holiday too!

Yanno, I think (most) all of us can agree that looking back on our early days as a student, it didn't necessarily matter the grades we made. What really ended up mattering is how brutal our school pictures turned out. Because those suckers... they somehow really do stick by your side for the rest of your life. Like glue. They're always there, and they always come back to haunt you. The good ones AND the bad ones. But I suppose that's what makes the reminiscing so enjoyable.

You've gotten to know the 102.7 VGS squad over the air waves and online through our content and bios (check them out)! But this holiday is such a fun way to share the sides of ourselves from years past, back when we were mere kiddos. It's a cool way to share a glimpse into our days as students! Being born and raised in New York I have been a New York Giants fan my whole life but I didn't know anything about any other teams until I became an adult.

When I met my husband every Sunday was a football day... all day. I decided if I wanted to hang out with him and actually enjoy it I had to know more about all of the teams and not just the Giants.

I was a bartender at the time and would ask all of the big betters that I would take care of who their #1 pick of the week was, then I would put them all together and bet a 6pt 5-team parlay. (I didn't know what it was at first either) I did really well and learned so much about betting and football. It was a win-win (most weeks) I got to hang out with my husband during the football days and won a few bucks here and there.

Betting doesn't have to be scary and you don't have to put a ton of money down to win or just to get into games that you wouldn't otherwise get into.

They even make betting so easy now you can do it from your phone and you don't have to go to the sportsbook and get embarrassed when you have no idea what you're doing! I am not a degenerate I just love football and getting into all things football!

So with the NFL kicking off, I bring to you Aimee's picks for week 1 of the NFL!

This morning, I had the honor of filling in for Aimee on Aimee+Shawn. I mentioned to Shawn that we should do something ridiculous, like eating something hot. He suggested the Paqui One Chip Challenge. I'd never heard of the Paqui One Chip Challenge, and I willingly agreed without doing an ounce of research. This was where I initially went wrong.

For those of you that haven't heard of it either, the Paqui One Chip Challenge is exactly as it sounds. A challenge to eat one single chip. Easy enough, right? Well, yes... eating the chip and swallowing it quickly is no problem. It's the after effects due to the ridiculous ingredients and spice from peppers that I believe should literally be illegal to sell or consume. According to Paqui, "This year's high voltage chip contains the super-charged Carolina Reaper Pepper and stinging Scorpion Pepper with a shocking twist, it'll turn your tongue BLUE!" The many after effects and ranges of pain that you experience throughout are what make this challenge... a true challenge.

I'm a tough chick, and I LOVE spicy foods. I thought this challenge would be especially fun for me. I knew Shawn didn't like spicy foods, and I couldn't wait to watch him mildly suffer (just a little bit, I'm not a monster).

I couldn't wait to get to the station bright and early this morning and take on the challenge. I was so eager. So excited. So chipper. And then...

I ate the chip. And I did not walk away from the Paqui One Chip Challenge the same person. I am changed.

I literally experienced every stage of grief. Every. Stage.

Upon first bite, I was unwilling to accept that the effects of this chip would be brutal on me in the slightest. As a major spicy food lover, I genuinely believed there was no way that this chip would get to me. I denied for as long as I could...

As I was realizing that this chip was literally wrecking my internal organs, I was unpleased. Better yet, I was upset and angry with myself. In these moments, I deemed myself the biggest idiot on the planet. Why did I suggest we eat something spicy in the first place?

It was at this point that I began asking myself, "Why did I say I wanted to do this? What if I had gone for a less spicy, less painful challenge? If only I had done more research. If only I had thought this through."

The pain felt like it would never end. Hours went by... HOURS. I wasn't getting any better. I was still profusely sweating. My body was still revolting. I was beginning to think that I had would be dealing with lasting effects from my decision for the rest of my life.

Eventually, I got to the point that I no longer believed that the chip would cause irreversible damage to my insides. I made it out the other side. I told myself in those grueling moments of doubt that the time would come that I would laugh at this. I've finally hit that point now. But I will admit... My stomach still hurts.
