5 Reasons Why We’re Excited For Lorde’s New Album
Melodrama is out, which is something we’ve been waiting on for years!
As a fan who listened to Pure Heroine for many years on repeat, I was very excited to hear the new jams that would come from Lorde‘s repertoire. Based on that, here are a few reasons you should give it a listen!
A More Energetic Sound
Songs like “Green Light” and “Sober” are more of an upbeat sound, and we’re waiting for there to be another movie like (500) Days Of Summer to be soundtracked to these songs. Then again, “Green Light” was already used in New Girl so maybe that’s why we think it fits so well.
Not A Cliche Pop Sound
When a pop album comes out, everything tends to blend together or have the same type of format, but Lorde always makes sure to differentiate herself. Listening to the difference in percussion and use of instrumental sounds that aren’t standard, the songs clearly cut from one to another, each with their own unique quality. It does have an electronic vibe sometimes, but not in the way that typical pop music has released, and it leans more Alternative than anything else.
Lack Of Superficial Thoughts or Teen Slang
Lorde’s age definitely shows as the subject matter of her music has changed for Melodrama. Probably the youngest parts of the album are in songs like “Green Light,” (“I put my makeup on in someone else’s car”), and in “The Louvre,” (“Broadcast the boom boom boom boom and make ’em all dance to it”). On the flip side, “Liability” encompasses what people like to call “Quarter Life Crisis,” or the age between 25-30 where you start to realize/panic that life is not what it’s all cracked up to be, and feeling like you’re a constant disaster.
She Will Be Touring With This Album
Lorde has set up a full-scale tour to support Melodrama, which means we’ll not only get to see Lorde in full force, we’ll also get to see her do different renditions of these songs. With Lorde, she doesn’t tend to do things not at “10,” so we imagine that she’ll change up the songs to where it will be a great concert experience – not just straight from album to stage.
She Clearly Learned New Tricks From Electronic Duo Disclosure
While working with electronic duo Disclosure, Lorde did a song called “Magnets” in which she thrived hardcore in giving the song the justice it deserved. Disclosure’s album Caracal was a great album in itself, but it seems as if when Lorde worked with them on the track, it helped alter her sound to a new level that had more of an electronic base than the more relaxed sound that you heard on Pure Heroine.
