Taylor Swift is in love and she doesn't care who knows it. Swift's new song "Lover," is about being all-consumed by a new lover. But, fans think the lyric video for "Lover" actually hides a few Easter eggs about the album and her possible engagement.
Swift's new ballad, co-produced by Jack Antonoff, is about never wanting to lose that feeling of when you first start dating someone. "Leave the Christmas lights up until January," she sings. "This is our place, we make the rules." Fans believe this line hints that Swift and Alwyn live together.
Another fan took things further, tweeting that the Christmas tree emoji in Alwyn's Instagram profile might mean he's been dropping Lover clues, too. Seriously, check out that post's date.
Later, Swift sings "My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue/All's well that ends well to end up with you." It's a line she previewed on Instagram that got fans wondering if Swift is engaged to boyfriend Joe Alwyn since it's a reference to the old wedding adage "something borrowed, something blue."
E! noted that the title track clocks in at 3:41, which if you flip it is 143, which is text slang for "I love you." Clearly, this is a love letter to Alwyn, but is it her engagement announcement? Unfortunately, probably not.
But, that won't stop fans from trying to figure out this mystery when Swift's new album, Lover, drops on Aug. 23.
