Olivia Rodrigo attends the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' 14th Annual Governors Awards at The Ray Dolby Ballroom on January 09, 2024 in Hollywood, California.
Olivia Rodrigo is ready to get back in front of the camera. The “vampire” singer told Variety while attending the Academy’s Governors Awards on Tuesday (January 9) night in Hollywood that she’d love to get back into acting, upping the ante from her past roles in television to hitting the big screen. “I love movies, I love telling stories,” Rodrigo told the publication. As for what genre she’d like to delve into, the award-winning singer said she wants to star in a coming-of-age film “before I’m actually of age. Maybe I am of age already.” The “spicy pisces” turns 21 on February 20.
Her love for story-telling is something the musician gets really excited about in music and movies. Rodrigo’s acting credits on the Disney channel include High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Bizaardvark, and an episode of New Girl. She attended the Governors Awards in support of “Can’t Catch Me Now,” her single from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes soundtrack. Rodrigo also revealed that she’d love to duet with this year’s Best New Artist Grammy nominee, Noah Kahan. She called the “Stick Season” singer-songwriter “great” and “very inspiring.”
Rodrigo’s Grammy nominations include Record of the Year for her song “vampire,” Album of the Year for Guts, Song of the Year for “vampire,” Best Pop Solo Performance for “vampire,” Best Pop Vocal Album for Guts, and Best Rock Song for “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl.” Of her six nominations, Rodrigo told People she is “very grateful” and it is “such an honor.” The 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and will broadcast and stream live on CBS and Paramount+.
As for her birthday soon approaching, the California native told ET that she’s gonna have a party with her friends and “pop some champagne, you know?”
Olivia Rodrigo's Best Looks of the Year
Olivia Rodrigo’s music career has been steadily climbing since her 2021 debut. The “drivers license” singer was born on February 20, 2003, as an only child in California. The self-proclaimed “spicy Pisces” grew up listening to her parents’ favorite alternative rock music, with bands like No Doubt, Pearl Jam, the White Stripes, and Green Day. Rodrigo started taking acting and vocal lessons in kindergarten and learned to play piano soon after. In elementary school, she participated in the after-school musical theater program. By age 12, she was playing guitar by age 12. She first became interested in songwriting after listening to country music, especially Taylor Swift's music. When she was in middle school, she landed her first role in the Disney show, Bizaardvark and moved to Los Angeles. Rodrigo was homeschooled from 2016 until she graduated in 2021. After three seasons on the show as guitarist Paige Olvera, Rodrigo was cast in the starring role of Nini Salazar-Roberts on the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019.
The following year, Olivia signed with Geffen and Interscope Records in 2020. A year later, she released her debut single, “drivers license,” which became one of the best-selling songs of 2021, propelling her to mainstream fame. She followed it up with singles “Deja Vu” and “Good 4 U,” and released her debut solo studio album, Sour, in May of that year. Since then, the artist has won various accolades, including three Grammy Awards. She even came out with a Disney+ documentary prior to her album release titled Olivia Rodrigo: Driving Home 2 U. The documentary chronicled her creative process with Sour. In September 2023, she dropped her second studio album, titled Guts.
As we previously reported, Olivia’s highly anticipated GUTS world tour will feature 57 stops from February 2024 in Palm Springs, California, making stops across North America and Europe, before wrapping up on August 14 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. PinkPantheress, The Breeders, Chappell Roan, and Remi Wolf will join the singer on select dates across the tour.
Take a look below at Olivia’s best looks of the year so far:
On July 7, Rodrigo sported this super chic look. She wore this black chiffon mini dress adorned with little red hearts and accessorized with black strappy heels and a red ribbon tied around her neck. With a few delicate tendrils of hair in front, the singer looks like a model.
Fresh off the release of her Guts album, Olivia shared her gratitude for all the love with this fire outfit. Pairing a satin white cropped button-up, the “vampire” singer completed her y2k-inspired look with a bronze-colored sequined micro skirt. She kepts things playful in her photos, sticking her tongue out in the first photo, and gasping at the Guts-themed cake in the second.
Before attending the Met Gala, Olivia wore this sexy, sequined number. The grey mini dress featured layers of texture, with a white lace trim in her bust, with a satin black bow in the center. Sharing her behind-the-scenes getting-ready photos for the Gala, Olivia looked like Aubrey Hepburn with her hairdo and makeup as she wore the vintage Chanel gown.
In her green-themed slideshow, Olivia kicks off her time in England with a pouty selfie wearing a green fairycore dress with her hair down. A few slides over, the singer was in a pub, walking toward the camera with a pint in her hand, wearing the same cute dress. In the second to last slide, the singer chucks up a peace sign wearing the dress with a sherpa jacket in front of a double-decker bus.
Thriving post-Guts release, Olivia showed off her MTV VMA look in a series of images. She captioned the post with lyrics from “all-american bitch,” writing: “built like a mother and a total machine!!!!” With her sparkling simple gown, Olivia completed the outfit with initial rings that read out: GUTS. We love how, with her callback to Twilight with her “vampire” track, someone commented on the post: “This is the dress of a killer bella.” IYKYK.
All smiles in this strapless sweetheart dress, Olivia poses on what looks like to be a boat in Japan. Her sophisticated look is paired with the perfect matching red lip, and in the next slides, the artist shows off her casual street style, in white printed tees. She is giving us major FOMO in this September 25 slideshow.
