Reentry Program In Las Vegas Giving Hope For Prisoners
Hope for Prisoners is a reentry program that’s geared toward people who have been formally incarcerated or on probation or parole and are looking to improve their situation. They offer a week-long program that will prepare them for what’s to come in the next 18 months, where they will work with a case manager who will guide them every step of the way.
How Hope For Prisoners Reentry Program Began
According to hopeforprisoners.org, in 2004, founder Jon Ponder was facing a 23-year sentence in federal prison. He decided that this would be the last time he would spend time in jail. Growing up in the streets of New York, Ponder became involved in gangs, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and was arrested for the first time at the age of twelve.
Many years of this continued lifestyle resulted in multiple incarcerations. Ponder found himself at the most difficult point in his life in a cell. He made a promise to God and himself that he would change his life, and help transform others into a better life. Jon spent his entire time in prison educating himself, and preparing himself for the day he would return home.
Hope for Prisoners reentry program helps men and women who have just been released from jail get back into society and succeed with the proper skills and knowledge to be productive with their new start.
After his release, he focused on making a better life for himself and other former inmates looking for a second chance to do better. And Hope For Prisoners was born.

Hope For Prisoners First Step For Change
Every Tuesday there’s an orientation held to get an idea of the reentry program. It teaches how it works and how to benefit. They offer classes to help with a career not just a job. So the whole thing is to assist with a fresh start and push forward in life. Hope For prisoners already knows how difficult it can be to start over. That’s why they take it step by step to ensure a successful new beginning. There are plenty of resources that help navigate. It’s for the community and is dedicated to individuals who desire a second chance.
The Director of Workforce Development, Mr. Earl McDowell, states the reentry program is not limited to former prisoners. Anyone who’s looking for a career is highly encouraged to come in and get trained for a new start.
Hope For Prisoners is located at 333 North Rancho Lv NV 89106. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
