LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - APRIL 09: A Tesla car drives through a tunnel in the Central Station during a media preview of the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop on April 9, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Las Vegas Convention Center Loop is an underground transportation system that is the first commercial project by Elon Musk’s The Boring Company. The USD 52.5 million loop, which includes two one-way vehicle tunnels 40 feet beneath the ground and three passenger stations, will take convention attendees across the 200-acre convention campus for free in all-electric Tesla vehicles in under two minutes. To walk that distance can take upward of 25 minutes. The system is designed to carry 4,400 people per hour using a fleet of 62 vehicles at maximum capacity. It is scheduled to be fully operational in June when the facility plans to host its first large-scale convention since the COVID-19 shutdown. There are plans to expand the system throughout the resort corridor in the future.

Beneath Las Vegas' streets, a game-changing transport system has moved more than 3 million people through its tunnels since 2021. The Vegas Loop, developed by Elon Musk's Boring Company, seeks to revolutionize transportation in the city

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) CEO Steve Hill tells KTNV that the Vegas Loop is "the only system like it in the world." The underground transportation continues to expand, adding its latest stop at the Westgate Resort to help alleviate parking and driving challenges in the area.

New tunnels under construction will connect to the Thomas & Mack Center and create links from the Convention Center to the Wynn and Encore Resorts. While construction is ongoing, operational timelines for these expansions have not been disclosed.

Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson notes the long-term project will help reduce traffic around tourist areas. Gibson responded to questions about the Westgate stop, stating, "As those tunnels are completed, we're hoping we can add each station much more rapidly than this one."

Several safety issues led to multiple controversies; Nevada OSHA hit the project with a $100,000 fine last February. Hill and Gibson assured that Clark County teams will check the system regularly to keep strict public safety standards.

Visitor Carlos Licona expressed how Las Vegas could benefit from reduced congestion. When asked about his Vegas Loop ride to the convention, Licona told KTNV it was "very comfortable, secure, [and] very fast."

Future expansions include more stops along Las Vegas Boulevard and improved accessibility to the Harry Reid International Airport.

City officials supported this answer to traffic problems. The Vegas Loop will reshape transportation in the city. Las Vegas visitors now avoid crowded streets and parking lots by traveling underground instead.
