Ah, wine – the perfect accompaniment to a romantic dinner, a great way to celebrate with friends, or just the best way to unwind after a long day. But why not take your love of wine to the next level and plan an entire vacation around it? (after dry January of course)

Whether you’re looking for a weekend getaway with your significant other or planning an extended stay for family and friends, there are plenty of destinations that offer access to gorgeous vineyards, top-notch vino and incredible food.

We celebrated a friend of mine in Paso Robles, California for her bachelorette party weekend and it was so much fun and very beautiful. The wine was great, weather was perfect (in March) and it was such a relaxing time going from winery to winery. My suggestion would be to get a driver that way everyone can partake in the wine and can be safe doing so. That was my first trip to a winery and it will not be my last. I have a few breathtaking wineries on my bucket list. Near and far.

Let’s explore some of the best wine vacations you can take this year.

U.S. News tracked down these spectacular destinations that promise breathtaking sceneries and distinguished wine cultures that make them among favorite choices for adults who want a fun vacation dedicated solely devoted around enjoying their favorite wine! If you’re in the mood for an Italian getaway, a well-known California vineyard or a romantic first-class France destination, you’re going to want to keep reading.

  • 1) Napa Valley, California

Often referred to as “the grand dame of American Wine Country,” Napa Valley is one of the most well-known destinations for wine lovers. From rolling vineyards nestled in bucolic valleys to quaint tasting rooms tucked away in historic downtowns, Napa Valley has something special for every type of traveler. For those looking to truly immerse themselves in the culture and atmosphere of Napa Valley, many wineries offer exclusive tours where you can sample their finest vintages straight from barrels or even explore underground caves filled with aging wines. And don’t forget about the food – Napa Valley is home to some of the best restaurants in the country.

  • 2) Bordeaux, France

For many wine aficionados, Bordeaux is considered one of Europe’s premier destinations for sipping world-class vintages surrounded by stunning scenery. Located on France’s Atlantic coast near the border with Spain, Bordeaux offers visitors access to some of the best merlots and cabernet sauvignons in all of Europe. Many wineries also offer private tours where you can sample rare vintage wines while taking in breathtaking views of rolling hillsides dotted with vineyards as far as they eye can see. Of course no trip would be complete without trying some classic French cuisine – Bordeaux won’t disappoint!

  • 3) Tuscany, Italy

Tuscany’s rolling hills covered with fragrant olive groves and sprawling vineyards create an atmosphere that simply begs people to relax and enjoy life’s simple pleasures – like sipping delicious Italian wines! Tuscany offers travelers access to some truly unique wineries such as Castello di Ama which dates back all the way back to 1141 AD or Tenuta di Capraia which features wines made from grapes grown on volcanic soils near Mount Etna. Tuscany also boasts some excellent restaurants serving up traditional Italian dishes like handmade pasta and freshly caught seafood – perfect complements for any bottle (or glass!) of vino!

  • 4) Sonoma, California

Often overlooked in favor of neighboring Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley offers an equally impressive landscape and collection of vineyards perfect for a full-bodied wine vacation. Take a guided bike tour of Sonoma’s scenic wineries, then enjoy a tasting at Gundlach Bundschu or Jacuzzi Family Vineyards. Be sure to try one of the region’s specialties, including pinot noir, zinfandel and chardonnay, while visiting. And with delicious Californian cuisine served at the area’s many top-tier restaurants and hotels, you may never want to leave.

  • 5) Willamette Valley, Oregon

Referred to as Oregon’s wine country, this 150-mile stretch between Portland and Eugene is home to about 700 wineries! The Willamette Valley is considered one of the world’s top pinot noir-producing areas. With family-friendly wineries, such as Brooks Wine and Stoller Family Estate, and sophisticated manors like King Estate Winery and Domaine Serene, Willamette Valley appeals to every kind of wine lover. Plus, if you don’t have your own set of wheels, you can easily reach the region from Portland with the help of an organized tour. (Which I highly suggest)

  • 6) Pahrump, Nevada

When you think about the desert you don’t think of wineries but don’t knock it until you try it. Located just 45 minutes away from The Strip, Pahrump wineries are so beautiful. Diamond in the ruff. The wines are amazing if you are a fan of red or white. They have both. The staff is super knowledgeable and versed in the wines and there are beautiful hotels and restaurants for you to enjoy while you are there too.

  • 7) Amenia, New York

Head to the beautiful Hudson River Valley to check out the Cascade Mountain Winery, where the Seyval Blanc and Old Vine Zinfandel draw rave reviews. Multiple settings cater to all types of groups – pop into the tasting room for a quiet drink, enjoy dinner at the restaurant, or grab a cheese plate and a group of friends and head to the spectacular hillside picnic area. The best time to visit is in the warm, breezy summer, when outdoor concerts create a fun, festive vibe.
