I know you think moms are complex creatures and hard to figure out but I am telling you, we are actually really simple. When you ask mom “what do you want for Christmas?” And she answers “nothing.” Or “for you to do the dishes” maybe she will ask you to just spend quality time together… listen to her. She means it.

Yes, every mom deserves to treat herself every now and then, and there are plenty of gifts that would make any woman feel special this holiday season. But if she asks for those things it’s because she really wants those things.

First and foremost, we moms should give ourselves permission to take some time out and do something special just for us, but ‘mom guilt’ is real, and I think I speak for a lot of us when I say we really don’t want people spending money on us unless it’s in memories or experiences together.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure no mom would say ‘no’ to a massage or a facial but quality time with her spouse and her kids is what means most to her. So if you in fact do want to spend money maybe do a cooking class you can take together.. maybe a nice sentimental piece of jewelry but with that a coupon to spend the day or night together. A family movie or game night. Maybe mom just wants to take a nap on the couch while you play video games or watch tv. The way to a mom’s heart may just be a bottle of wine and some chocolates to enjoy after everyone goes home on Christmas night.

Below are some ideas of things moms (most of them) really want!

This holiday season let’s make sure we take some time out and really listen to mom when she tells us what she wants for Christmas. But also mom… give yourself permission to take care of YOU.  After all, moms need love too during this festive time of year. Happy Holidays from us here at VGS!

  • 1) Quality Time

When she says it, she really means it. It doesn’t matter what you do. Just do it together.

  • 2) A uninterrupted nap

Napping is great but it’s really great when it’s uninterrupted. Moms have so much going on in their head it will be nice for her to be able to shut it off just for an hour.

  • 3) Cuddles

Common who doesn’t love a good cuddle? Being a mom we live for them. If its the dog, the kids, the spouse or all of the above… make it happen. Cuddles are free!

  • 4) Putting the laundry away

Nobody likes to do it but if mom asks for you to do that than that would be a nice thing to do to take that one thing off of her plate.

  • 5) Less nagging

Listen, I know nobody likes a nagging mom but maybe if you just did what you were told the first time mom wouldn’t have to nag. So start listening and you get less nagging. Everyone wins.

  • 6) Date night

Maybe mom just wants to go to dinner with dad. Make yourself a peanut butter and jelly offer to watch the littles and let mom and dad go out and enjoy a nice dinner alone.

  • 7) Wine wins

Trying to relax during the holiday season is hard., especially for moms. They are the ones that keep it all flowing, decorations up, gifts bought and wrapped, and food on the table. Give mom a nice bottle of wine.

  • 8) Homemade anything

Once again if she says she wants it she means it. Homemade is a homerun every time. If its a card, a movie, a picture of the family anything homemade will be sure to bring happy tears to mom.

  • 9) Cleaning Service

If you insist on spending money get her a cleaning service. That will take a whole bunch off of moms plate. There is nothing more relaxing that walking into a spotless house.

  • 10) LOVE

Moms work really really hard. If you are a stay-at-home mom or a working mom. You are a MOM and you juggle a lot of things behind the scenes you don’t get credit for and quite frankly don’t ask for. You deserve to be loved and cherished and that my friends is FREE! So show mom you love her, tell her you love her, tell her you appreciate her. That will recharge her more than a day at the spa. I can promise you that.
