Captain Marvel's Thursday night numbers are already bringing life to 2019's box office, with the film bringing in an estimated $20-24M in just its first night alone, according to Deadline.
The film, starring Brie Larson, is already having one of the best openings of any movie for 2019, trailing only behind How to Train Your Dragon. Fandango also reports that the film is their highest advance ticket-seller of 2019.
Captain Marvel also becomes the second best March preview night opening ever, falling just behind 2016's Batman vs. Superman. The numbers are higher than The Avengers: Infinity War (2018)and are on track to surpass Suicide Squad (2016) as well.
And while the film's reviews have been divided, Deadline notes that it is currently scoring 82 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a strong predictor that it will continue to do well at the box office throughout the weekend.
Deadline notes that the numbers are only estimates, so they are still subject to slight variation.
Still, the film is definitely boosting what has been a struggling box office year so far. According to Box Office Mojo, domestic box office numbers are down 27 percent compared to last year at this time. So Captain Marvel arrives right on time.
