A Los Angeles judge issued the ruling on the pop megastar’s conservatorship today (November 12) after a 13-year long battle over whether the singer was mentally sound enough to control her $60 million estate, according to Variety and several other outlets.
Father Jamie Spears was suspended from his role as conservator in late September, with Britney's lawyer Mathew Rosengart saying, “This suspension is directly what Britney wanted, she does not want Jamie in her life."
Over the summer, the 39-year-old Grammy winner broke her silence on the conservatorship for the first time in 13 years saying during her court hearing that, “I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m OK and I’m happy… I’m not OK, I’m not happy, I can’t sleep,” she said. “I’m so angry, it’s insane. And I’m depressed. My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management… they should be in jail.”
“It’s not okay to force me to do anything I don’t want to,” Spears said. “The conservatorship should end. I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive.”
Britney’s fiancee, Sam Ashgari, shared a video early today on Instagram of them both smiling in “#FreeBritney” T-shirts, followed with a post that celebrated the end of her conservatorship that read, "FREEDOM," with the caption: "History was made today. Britney is Free! ❤️"
