Need To Know: Nevada’s New Minimum Wage Starts Today

- We were telling you earlier this week that Major League Baseball told the A’s that they would waive the franchise relocation fee if they decided to move the team to Las Vegas. A savings of hundreds of millions of dollars, surely.
Well, Oakland isn’t going down without a fight. The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission just gave the thumbs up to a plan that would convert a 50-plus acre terminal at the Port Of Oakland into, among other things, land for a brand new state of the art baseball field. If you didn’t know, the Oakland Athletics currently play in a stadium that’d be better suited for Republic Services. The Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators have been outdrawing their big league brother in attendance for a bit now.

- NEW MINIMUM WAGE STARTS TODAY
- Congratulations minimum wage workers! Your pay just increased. Effective today, the state’s hourly minimum wage jumps up to $10.50 an hour… just in time to pay for a tank of gas. It’ll go up another $0.75 every July 1st until 2024.
If you get health benefits with work, your minimum wage is a little lower, at $9.50 an hour.In case you were wondering, 40 hours a week at $10.50 comes out to $21,840 before taxes, and the average 1-bedroom apartment rent in the valley is approaching $1600 a month, or $19,200 a year. Make that math work.

- LAS VEGAS LOOP GETS A NEW STOP
- And the Tesla Tunnel, aka the Las Vegas Loop, has gotten it’s first off-Convention Center stop. You can now take a trip from Resorts World to the Convention Center, depending on if the Convention Center has anything going on. Eventually the Loop system will have stops up and down the strip, into downtown, towards the stadium and more.
