What The Hell Happened To Justin Timberlake?
Shawn was recently thinking to himself, “self, isn’t it so interesting how Justin Timberlake used to be one of the most beloved celebrities on the planet, and now it seems like he’s kind of… faded away a bit?”
Well, apparently Rolling Stone recognized this weird moment in JT’s career too, with a blistering headline that caught Shawn’s attention. “What The Hell Happened To Justin Timberlake” runs through the slow march from America’s sweetheart to almost cringe-worthy 40-something.
Now, we know what you’re thinking. It’s Justin Timberlake. There’s no way he is as cringe as that article makes him sound but Aimee+Shawn go through the list of reasons and frankly, they may have a point.
Firstly, the Super Bowl incident. Janet Jackson showed what most children see the most often for the first several months of their life for a quarter of a second and she got the brunt of it. The NFL says she isn’t banned. But let’s face it, she is. Not to mention that year her Grammy invitation was revoked… yet Justin Timberlake, the guy who actually ripped her bra to expose her breast, was allowed to not only go to the Grammys that year, but accept an award!
Then there’s the Britney Spears years. “Framing Britney Spears” put a spotlight on the relationship between Britney and Justin and he didn’t come out smelling like roses. That, and a Janet Jackson documentary, both dropped around the same time and it kind of put a bad taste in people’s mouths.
How about the fact that he won’t join ‘NSYNC for a reunion? That’s arguably the biggest violation of all. Then there’s the cheating allegations. Then there’s whatever this dance is.
All we know is Justin is a national treasure… but he can’t go down like this.
