Jimmy Kimmel Hops Into Nevada Senate Race With Twitter Endorsement
Jimmy Kimmel hasn’t been known as someone who is shy about holding a political stance. The Clark High School alum has thrown his hat in the political ring again. This time with a non-endorsement of U.S. Senate candidate Republican Adam Laxalt, and an endorsement of Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.

The decision to get political with his comedy is a measured one. The former The Man Show host took a clear position on former President Donald Trump that, he admits, lost him a good chunk of his fan base. Ratings dropped, his introduction video at Vegas Golden Knights games were getting booed and ABC executives suggested he tone it down. But he said he’d rather quit than do that. He recently signed a new deal that will keep him on ABC for an additional 3 years.
About the ratings…
To his credit, his show Jimmy Kimmel Live has been in a horse race for the top of the broadcast ratings as of late, leading with political jabs alongside The Late Show With Stephen Colbert who does the same. The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon has taken a mostly hands-off approach and while you would think that’d help his case, it hasn’t.
But surprisingly, the actual winner on all of late night television isn’t Kimmel, Colbert or Fallon. Believe it or not it is Greg Gutfeld, host of the Fox News Channel show Gutfeld! which takes a comedic angle from the other side of the aisle.
In the spot, Kimmel references an article from The Nevada Independent that was signed by 14 family members of Laxalt endorsing Cortez Masto. 22 others in his family then sent an opposing letter endorsing Laxalt. If you thought the holidays were awkward for your family, woof!
This is the first flat out endorsement spot we’ve seen Kimmel make and it’s a clear line in the sand for the comedian.
Some people say “keep politics out of it,” but they’ve been a mainstay of late night comedy for decades, and the top 3 late night shows today are all very much leaning in.
