Megan Fox is opening up about past abusive relationships in her new book of poems, Pretty Boys Are Poisonous. It was released Tuesday (November 7). The 37-year-old actress describes the physical and emotional abuse she experienced in excerpts obtained by Yahoo! Entertainment. In "F---ed-Up Fairy Tales," Fox writes: "Violent boy, full of rage and insecurities. Your hands are so beautiful and strong. You use them to hurt me now. Delicate bruises splayed across my jaw. I wonder what you are thinking while I cry and beg you to stop."

In another poem titled "Oxycodone and Tequila," she writes about being held down by a partner who spit on her and rubbed it across her face. "'Oh, you're so pretty, everybody loves you, your life is so f---ing easy,' you say as you slip your fingers in my mouth and try to rip my face in two," she writes. She's choked "until there is a sickening crack," and yet "you hit me again and again." The Jennifer's Body star describes in another poem titled "Greek Tragedies Lose Their Poetry When You Live Them" how "fingertips along my neck and bruises adorning my spine."

In "Don't Worry Darling," she writes about putting on a sweatshirt "so you wouldn't have to look at the bruises you left." The poem later reads, "Imagine all the girls who don't get hurt. For laughing at another boy's jokes." Megan hasn't used any names to identify who the subjects of her poems are, but as we reported in Fox's book announcement, she said the poems were written "in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence. I’ve spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins."

Healing Through Poetry

Feeling isolated from friends and family, she writes about a controlling partner in "An Apparition in a Miniskirt. "I cut everyone out of my life that you didn't like," it reads. "I stopped doing the things that I loved. I lost myself looking for your love." She told People over the weekend that some parts of the book are literal while other parts are allegorical. "Some poems contain a Grimm's-fairy-tale-type element, and others serve the same purpose as memes in online culture," she told the outlet. She added that "relationships are not pretty. They are ugly. Sometimes they are a war. But through a wound enters an opportunity to grow and become a stronger more whole version of yourself."

The mother of three explained how writing poetry has been an important outlet for her. "Acting doesn't really allow me to express myself fully in the way writing does because I'm reading someone else's words under someone else's direction," the Transformers alum explained. "Poetry gives me a space to experience some catharsis through art." While appearing on Good Morning America on the day of her book's release, she reiterated that it is not an "expose or a memoir, but throughout my life, I have been in at least one physically abusive relationship and several psychologically very abusive relationships." She pointed out that she has been publicly connected to a few people that people know about but has "shared energy" with very famous "horrific" people.
