Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival 2024 Lifts Spirits, Not Balloons

While many were ready to have their spirits lifted at the Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival, the balloons themselves were not ready to be lifted on day 3.

Hot air balloons have a way of captivating people’s imaginations and eliciting a sense of wonder and joy. That’s why every year, the Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival takes over Casa Blanca Resort, as thousands travel to experience the beauty and wonder of numerous hot air balloons. I had the honor of attending a portion of the 2024 three-day festival, which lasted from January 26th – 28th. Unfortunately, the trip did not end as planned, as I, and thousands of others, did not actually get to see the balloons take flight.

What Happened?

As mentioned, the Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival lasts three days, with three morning launches, two “Night Glow Candlestick Shows” where the balloons do not actually take off, and a champagne tasting inside Casa Blanca Resort happening in between the fun on Saturday. Fortunately, from what I heard, those who attended the festival early (Friday and Saturday morning) did in fact get to see hot air balloons launch during the morning launch sessions. However, on Saturday morning, there were some technical difficulties due to wind, and word has it balloons were flying every which way, with some going off course and nearly missing the adjacent freeway (yikes)! When it came time for the final morning launch on Sunday, the call was made to not let the majestic hot air balloons take flight. I and thousands understood, but we were disappointed to say the least.

The 2024 Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival Was Still A Success

Although I and thousands of others did not get the opportunity to see the hot air balloons soar through the air in beautiful Mesquite, Nevada, the festival was still very a much a success. After all, why does the Mesquite Hot Air Balloon Festival exist in the first place? Thousands travel to see the balloons simply for the joy they bring. They are a symbol of freedom, adventure, and creativity. Even though they did not take flight, all attendees still left with lifted spirits, even if the balloons were not able to lift off.
