Garage sales are such a fun way to declutter your home and garage, and make a little extra money. But the process of deciding what to keep, what to sell, and what to donate can be stressful. I got your guide on how to figure all of that out!

Decluttering That Space

Room-by-Room Sweep: Go through each room in your house and identify items you no longer use, need, or love. Don’t forget closets, basements, and garages. These spaces can have hidden treasures.

Create Piles: As you sort through your belongings, create three piles: Keep, sell, and donate. This will help you stay organized and focused.

3 questions to ask yourself:

   - When was the last time I used this? If it’s been over a year, let it go.

   - Does this item have sentimental value? If not, let it go.

   - Is it in good condition? If not consider donation or recycling.

Don't Hold On To Unnecessary Things 'Just In Case'

Deciding What to Sell:

  • Furniture sells well - they are a big draw to your garage sale. Dressers, tables, chairs, shelving.
  • Electronics - Working electronics like TVs, gaming consoles, and kitchen appliances.
  • Kids Items - toys, clothes, baby gear all those things are always in high demand.
  • Tools - Power tools, lawnmowers, gardening supplies, DIY people love those things.
  • Home Decor - Picture frames, lamps, decorative pieces.

Items That Might Not Sell:

  • Clothing that's super used - clothing can sell, but items that are heavily worn or out of style may not. Focus on selling gently used, current fashion pieces.
  • Old books - unless a collector's item most people aren't looking for books. Donate those!
  • Large Appliances - heavy things can be hard to sell because people may be alone or not have a truck. Try selling those online

Inevitably, some items won’t sell. Rather than bringing them back into your home donate donate donate! One man's trash is another man's treasure.
