I have done a lot of dumb things in my life. This may top the list.
I had just moved here from upstate New York. I didn’t get out much and stayed in a Summerlin bubble initially.
One day, I headed to the airport and needed to stop and get gas first, I was shocked to see that the nozzle didn’t fit in my gas tank. So I did what any normal person in a hurry would do, and I shot the gas into the tank as if I was at the fair trying to win a big teddy bear.
When I got back in the car and started it up, all was normal. Until I pressed the gas and nothing happened for a few seconds and then the car took off super fast.
The next day it did the same thing. I called Nissan and told them that they sold me a lemon of a car. They took it and looked at it for a few days before calling me and telling me that there was diesel fuel in my car. At that moment my jaw dropped, but I had to play it off like someone else did it to me. I couldn’t admit I was a complete moron and put diesel in my own car.
Believe it or not, that car survived. Actually thrived for many years after that. Even Nissan couldn’t believe that it survived and didn’t have to have any extensive work done to it.
Our boss Steve wanted to make me feel better about the dumb mistake. So, he came in to tell us a story and… well… it was an interesting one. Make sure you watch the video for it!
