Southwest Airlines To Offer Red Eye Flights From Las Vegas
The airline industry has a slew of different options. The legacy airlines like Delta and American offer up service you come to expect. If you like abusive relationships, you might look towards Allegiant, Frontier and Spirit. Southwest Airlines is one of the only airlines that includes checked bags on every flight and doesn’t seem to nickel and dime you. Well, that service is expected to go late night and out of Las Vegas in the years to come.
At a recent travel conference, Ryan Green, the Chief Commercial Officer for Southwest Airlines, said that overnight flights are coming soon to the airline and that Las Vegas and Hawaii will be the destinations to kick off the third shifts.
Why Does Southwest Airlines Not Already Fly Late Night To Las Vegas?
If you’ve ever logged onto Southwest Airlines website to check out fares, you may not have realized something. You ever notice that there are never red eye flights available? Well, that’s because there are none. Unlike most every other airline carrier, Southwest has practically never offered the late night flights.
The why comes down to two things: contracts and old software. On one hand, their labor contracts need to be amended to get pilots to start burning the midnight oil. Equally as importantly is their reservation software which is incredibly dated. That software hasn’t been robust enough to allow for overnight flights for whatever reason.
While articles as late as 2017 have mentioned pending red eye flights, they never manifested. Now, finally, is the chance.
When Will Southwest Airlines Start Red Eye Service From Las Vegas To Hawaii?
Before you start packing your bags, you should know it won’t be immediate. Southwest Airlines flights from Las Vegas to Hawaii (and other destinations) are expected to get underway in a couple years, hopefully. It might be faster swimming if you start right now.
