WrestleMania Vegas Bringing WWE’s Biggest Show To Valley
“Finally… WrestleMania… Has come back… To… Vegas!” You can almost hear it, can’t you? Finally, after a 32 year drought, the biggest pay-per-view of the year for WWE is returning to the valley. WrestleMania Vegas is coming April 19th and 20th, 2025 at Allegiant Stadium.
This is a huge deal for the city, with the event selling nearly 100,000 tickets for the 2023 edition of the biggest night in “sports entertainment” (wrestling, it’s wrestling). The last time Las Vegas hosted the event, things in the city were way way different.
WrestleMania Vegas Will Be Far Bigger Spectacle Than 1993’s Las Vegas Edition
April 4th, 1993, Caesars Palace. The then World Wrestling Federation was hosting the 9th edition of WrestleMania. It was deemed “The World’s Largest Toga Party.” Yeah. It wasn’t a rousing success.
Las Vegas’ first crack at hosting the event was the first outdoor edition of the fight. Thankfully the weather held out for the event, unlike Lovers & Friends. Although considering the opinions of many, it may have been better if high winds canceled it.
The affair was a hokey one. Doink The Clown times two, Hulk Hogan won the title in 22 seconds against Yokozuna only minutes after Yokozuna won the title against Bret Hart. It was an example of how “silly” professional wrestling had become, and real competition in WCW hadn’t risen to be a formidable opponent quite yet.
It was also one of the lower attended WrestleMania’s in history, bringing in just shy of 17,000. This was a different time when WrestleMania would be held in arenas, with the occasional much larger venue bringing in much larger numbers of fans.
WrestleMania Vegas Promises To Be A Different Beast
Since the early 1990s, the company and the event has taken on a whole new life. The last three WrestleMania events have garnered around 70,000 fans on average for each of their two days. Yeah, this is a two day event now.
While Allegiant Stadium played host to the Super Bowl, this is essentially the “Super Bowl” of wrestling. Fans take over the city not just for the event but for the festivities around it. Fan Fests, conferences, interviews, appearances and more.
Earning WrestleMania back to redeem ourselves from what happened in 1993 will feel very good! We know that the booking will be better.
