Sammi & Shawn Host LLS Visionaries Of The Year Las Vegas

It's not everyday you get to co-host an incredibly important event with your best friend. Sammi and Shawn recently had the chance to take the stage together at the LLS Visionaries of the Year Las Vegas gala.

Rejoice – it’s officially gala season! It’s not everyday you get to co-host an incredibly important event with your best friend, but Sammi and Shawn recently had the chance to take the stage together at the LLS Visionaries of the Year Las Vegas gala.

What Is LLS Visionaries Of The Year Las Vegas?

I’m so glad you asked! LLS stands for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a life-changing non-profit that is a current leader across the world in the fight to end blood cancer. The LLS mission? “Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.”

The LLS mission consists of three mission pillars: Research, Policy & Advocacy, and Patient Education & Support. Remember this for later… it’s important!

LLS is able to financially propel this mission through their extensive fundraising efforts. Many major events are hosted around the nation annually, from Light The Night to Big Climb to Student Visionaries of the Year.

One of the most important annual fundraisers the organization holds is Visionaries of the Year. With this fundraiser, local business and community leaders compete, each starting their own personal campaigns focused on one of those three mission pillars to raise funds and awareness for blood cancers and LLS.

Don’t get it twisted… these individuals are in it to WIN IT. The competition is fierce (especially here in Las Vegas), and it’s all for an amazing cause. You love to see it!

At the end of their campaigns, all of the competitors come together at a gala to celebrate, raise last minute funds, and ultimately find out who will be named the coveted Visionary of the Year!

At the end of the 2024 LLS Visionaries of the Year Las Vegas gala, Sammi and Shawn announced Lisa Song Sutton as this year’s Las Vegas LLS Visionary of the Year. As the gala concluded, a massive roar of applause erupted as they announced that, as a whole, the LLS Visionaries of the Year Las Vegas candidates were able to raise a whopping total of $126,855!

How You Can Get Involved With LLS

Becoming involved with a non-profit like LLS is not only important to the organization, but it’s a truly life-changing experience for you as well. None of LLS’s mission is possible without the support of a dedicated community, and that’s where you come in.

Whether you decide to personally volunteer your time, advocate for the cause, raise funds for the organization through campaigns like LLS Visionaries of the Year Las Vegas, or simply give blood, you will be making a difference… and an important difference at that.

Lung Cancer Awareness At Scale The Strat; Shawn And Sammi Complete All 1,455 Steps

The fight for air climb succeeds another rewarding year for Scale The STRAT at The STRAT, Hotel, Casino and Skypod. The American Lung Association continues their mission to create a world free of lung disease.

In the U.S. Lung cancer is the leading killer amongst men and women according to Lung.org. We must commit to spreading awareness to our neighbors while raising funds for research and medicines.

The Scale The STRAT event has taken place for over a decade bringing in thousands of Las Vegans and out-of-towners alike.

At 102.7 VGS, we committed to raising funds and asking our dedicated listeners, like you, to join #TeamVGS. We are proud to say that you heard us and even during trying times helped raise $350. Our company, Beasley Media Group Las Vegas raised $1,789 earning us the sixth spot on American Lung Association’s Top Ten Companies list.

Our morning show host, Shawn Tempesta joined by our afternoon drive host, Sammi Reeves, volunteered to Scale The STRAT for the very first time. To give those perspective on what this means… The Stratosphere is 1,455 steps which in retrospect is 108 stories and 854 feet. We are so proud of both of them as they gave it their all in completing the monstrous climb.

Sammi’s piece of advice would be to, “get your body used to being active.” She also mentioned how she will be going on a 10 minute jog a few days a week leading up to the big scale. Post thoughts Sammi explained how “it’s not an easy challenge. I definitely wasn’t anticipating how difficult it would be to breathe.”

Shout Out to Aimee who was with us in spirit. She scaled 1,455 steps in our office building due to another event she was scheduled for. Her dedication shows just how much Lung cancer awareness means to #TeamVGS.

The fastest time was recorded at 06:46 by participant, Wai Ching Soh. He scaled the exact same time as he did the year prior.

No matter how fast you Scale The STRAT, our fight to end Lung cancer will continue.
