‘Dropicana’ Closing I-15/Tropicana In Early 2023 – Avoid These Dates
If you’re planning on traveling on I-15 and Tropicana anytime in January 2023, prepare for massive delays and a massive headache. The Nevada Department of Transportation is spreading the word that those who utilize these roads in their daily commute should prepare for the brutal road closures to come.
News 3 reports that the Tropicana Avenue bridge will ultimately be replaced with a wider bridge, and new flyover and HOV ramps will be installed. The project is so large and requires so much demolition that the project has been nicknamed “Dropicana,” with crews ultimately destroying and rebuild the north half of Tropicana, over I-15 and Frank Sinatra Drive.

According to News 3, closures are scheduled for the following dates and times:
- I-15 will be closed in both directions at Tropicana from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30.
- Tropicana will be closed in both directions, from Dean Martin Drive to New York-New York on the Strip, for Jan. 22-30.
- I-15 southbound ramps to Tropicana will be closed beginning Jan. 17. The westbound ramp will be closed for about nine months, while the eastbound ramp will be closed for a year and a half.
Fortunately, the Nevada Department of Transportation understands the massive and prolonged difficulties these road closures will bring to Las Vegas commuters, and they have created numerous resources to inform and aid drivers who plan to travel on I-15 and Tropicana during these closures.
NDOT has launched an app completely dedicated to the project that will provide real-time updates on traffic restrictions and detours. The app can be found in your app store by searching “I-15 Trop.” More information on the “Dropicana” project can also be found at the project website, i15Trop.com, or you can call 702-876-TROP (8767).
