Barbie Sequels & Magic 8 Ball – Mattel’s Film Franchise?
Barbie has been a loved toy for generations of kids. She has also been a movie and TV star. With the recent news that Mattel, Barbie’s parent company, is looking to launch a new Barbie movie franchise after the huge success of the movie, fans of Barbie are understandably super excited. But what can we expect from this series? And what could this mean for the future of Mattel as a whole?
Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz seems confident, as he should be, that the company has what it takes to make the franchise a huge success. The first movie was already a huge success. Breaking a ton of records opening week and beyond. So, Mattel has already established a solid foundation for the Barbie franchise on the big screen.
What can we expect from the sequels? According to Yahoo – Kreiz says, “opportunities open up very quickly” once a successful franchise is established. This could mean more movies centered around Barbie’s adventures, or even spin-offs. Maybe even about other Mattel toys and make it a Mattel Universe and not just a Barbie Universe? There are rumors that could happen and given the diverse range of toys, including a movie about the Magic 8 ball! The possibilities are virtually endless. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see other beloved toys from our childhoods make their way to the big screen in the years to come. I would love to see a Polly Pocket movie!
Now is the time to do it, with so much going on surrounding the brand. Not only did the Barbie movie kill it at the box office so far, but they are building a Mattel theme park in Arizona, set to open up in 2024 and it looks amazing. Mattel isn’t just looking to launch new franchises centered around Barbie. It’s clear that the company has big plans for its future in entertainment.
Who knows? Maybe we’ll see other beloved toys from our childhoods make their way to the big screen in the years to come. One thing is certain: Mattel’s future in entertainment is looking very big and bright!
