What Is Your Vegas Origin Story
Aimee and Shawn moved here one month apart 16 years ago!
Aimee moved here in February of 2006, and this is her story…
When I moved here I had just turned 20 years old and I had decided college wasn’t going to be for me, at the time. My entire family had moved here in November of 2005 and I was the only one left in upstate NY, cold and bored. I decided to make the jump and got on a plane and moved to Vegas. I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I had to make money somehow so I decided to apply for a job at the new casino opening around the corner from my parent’s house, Red Rock Casino.
I got the job and started working in the Steakhouse. I met my husband about two months later. I thought Red Rock and Vegas would be temporary but turns out there was money and friends to be made here. It’s a pretty simple story but it’s my story and everyone has a different ‘I moved to Vegas because’ story. – Aimee
Shawn’s Vegas story starts with a heartbreak…
In 2005, I started talking to a girl on MySpace who worked in radio. She and I hit it off, and all of a sudden we were really kind of head over heels for each other. Talking every night for hours on the phone. After months of this, I said enough is enough! I want to see you. Her family was going to Las Vegas to race at the speedway, so I said “hey I’ll get a room there, and we can go on a few dates”. She stayed at Sam’s Town, I stayed at TheHOTEL at Mandalay Bay (my cousin paid, I was broke).
She got off the shuttle at Hotel San Remo, and the first night went SO well. Made out (score)! The next morning we were supposed to hang out… but that’s when it fell apart. By the final day, I went for the kiss, and she gave me the cheek. I was totally heartbroken. I took a cab to McCarran, and “You’re Beautiful” from James Blunt was playing. It was torture.
I ended up applying to a radio station in Vegas when I got back to Boston, and got a call back an hour later. Ended up moving to Vegas two months later. If it wasn’t for that date, God knows where I would be right now. I thank her for getting me here to this day. Everything happens for a reason…
