Are You A Grocery Store ‘Bread Squeezer’
Everyone attacks the grocery store differently. Some come with a list, some let their heart be their guide. Some go down each aisle methodically (women), while others (men) zig-zag back and forth through the store with reckless abandon. Today, we talked about our grocery store habits and those little things that we thing only we do.
Aimee is a serial bread groper. Whenever she goes down the bread aisle, she’ll give her loaf a squeeze before she throws it in her cart. She’ll even smack a melon or two listening for a sound that, while she doesn’t exactly know what she’s listening for, she is comforted to hear.
Shawn is a reach-arounder. Knowing how stocking works, perishable items are typically stocked from back to front. Meaning the items that will expire sooner are towards the front, and the new stock that will last longer (like milk) are at the back. You’ll find Shawn in the dairy section with three gallons on the ground and his arm buried deep within the fridge.
When Shawn was younger (and, shockingly, dumber) he used to pretend he had a hurt leg so he could drive the motorized shopping scooter around the store. He was 12, but he’s 38 today and he still thinks about do it.
Shawn’s dad is a grocery store offender. For years he would make it a point to steal an olive from the olive bar. Every time he’d make a beeline right to the delicious stuffed olives and cop one for the shopping adventure.
Aimee’s mom? She’ll check her eggs to make sure they are all there, intact, and ready for an omelette.
How about you? What grocery store habits do you have?
