If you are lucky enough to have a son when you get married, this is your sign to have a first dance with him.
My husband and I were together for 10 years before we got married. Our son was 8-years-old on our big day. I saw Garth Brooks perform his song “Mom,” on Ellen when we were planning for the wedding, and I knew I wanted to dance with him to that song on our big day. Yes, it was a big day for my husband and me but it was also a big day for him too.
I wanted to share a moment with him.
We didn’t tell many people we were going to do the dance. So, when the DJ said that we would have a special moment with just him and myself on the dance floor after dinner, there was not one dry eye in the place. Including me. I had listened to that song thousands of times before that day, but there was something different this time. It hit me harder. We sang it to each other and danced for 3 minutes and 50 seconds, and somehow it felt like time stopped and we were dancing for such a long beautiful time.
If you are getting married and you have kids, take my advice. You definitely need to have this special moment with them.
As we just celebrated our seven year wedding anniversary, I think about this being one of my favorite moments of the day and of my life. It is still something people talk about from that day seven years ago. It was special, it was beautiful and it’s something we will never forget.
There still — in my opinion — is no better song to dance with your child to on YOUR wedding day if you are lucky enough to have them there on your most special day.
