Will Disney Have Don Rickles In “Toy Story 5”
The announcement of “Toy Story 5” has brought up so much excitement for Disney Pixar and Toy Story fans worldwide, but its also raised questions regarding one of the beloved main characters and their voice actors. With the sad passing of legendary comedian Don Rickles in 2017, fans have been wondering how his iconic character, Mr. Potato Head, will be represented in “Toy Story 5”.
TMZ has learned that while Don Rickles cannot record new lines for “Toy Story 5,” his daughter, Mindy Rickles, is hopeful that Disney has enough archived audio on the cutting room floor to keep her father’s presence alive in the movie. The news of the film’s release date in 2026 has prompted discussions about the casting details, particularly regarding the fate of Mr. Potato Head.
“Toy Story 5” 2026
Don Rickles brought Mr. Potato Head to life with his very well known voice and his comedic timing in the first four “Toy Story” movies. He played the grumpy but so hysterical potato that everyone loved. Rickles’ funny lines added such a unique charm to Mr. Potato Head.
If they do keep Mr. Potato Head in “Toy Story” which I think they will I hope they use his voice and not have someone else play the part because it just won’t be the same.
In light of Don Rickles’ passing, fans have expressed concerns about how the character will be handled in the upcoming film. While Pixar has not yet revealed any details about the casting for “Toy Story 5,” Mindy Rickles remains optimistic that her father’s legacy will be honored in the new installment.
The use of archived audio is not crazy though they have done it before in the world of animation. Pixar actually has done it before including when they did it for Doc in the movie “Cars” It’s 2024 technology is crazy but cool, it’s definitely.
Don Rickles will always go hand and hand with the character of Mr. Potato Head, and if he was missing it would definitely be felt. Fingers crossed. Can not wait to see “Toy Story 5”!!!
