12-Year-Old Girl Murdered Her Father: NLVPD
It is a sad reality in our community and country but murders happen every day. But according to the North Las Vegas Police Department, a 12-year-old girl murdered her father.
According to 8 News Now, they were dispatched to an apartment complex near Civic Center and Gowan on Friday night. There, they allegedly discovered the 12-year-old girl murdered her father. NLVPD says that she is the only suspect in the case.
The girl, who has not been identified, was arrested and booked at Clark County Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon.
Police say that the 12-year-old girl murdered her father (allegedly) and did not have any physical signs of injury, which may convince a jury it was not done in defense or as part of a struggle.
If you have any information in regard to the murder, you can call the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111.
If 12-Year-Old Girl Murdered Her Father, What Consequences Will She Face?
Obviously this story is beyond comprehension. But what happens if a jury finds the 12-year-old murdered her father, or she admits it? It all depends on how the court sees the case.
If she is charged as an adult (which could happen), she would be looking at anywhere from 2-40 years in prison according to Nevada law.
However, if she is charged as a juvenile (she is currently being held in a juvenile detention system strictly due to her age and safety behind bars), things change a bit. In 2015, the Nevada Legislature banned life without parole-sentences for juveniles. So, if charged as a juvenile, she would be eligible for parole after 20 years served.
This story is still developing and more details will come out. As North Las Vegas Police Department understands, the household had been the scene of prior police interaction earlier in the month. Only time will tell.
