Have You Ever Accidently Slept In For A Big Day? Well, Sammi Did
Time management has never been a skill of mine… Ever. Waking up on time has also never been one of my strengths. The initial realization once you open your eyes and see the time… The overwhelming mixture of panic and frustration we feel in the moment. It’s the worst. We’ve all fallen victim to accidentally hitting ‘snooze’ and starting our morning off on the wrong foot.
Some tend to fall victim more than others. I am one of them. Little, fifth-grade Sammi was oversleeping and rolling into her elementary classroom 10 minutes after the tardy bell regularly (with a coffee in hand of course). Apparently, not much has changed.
For the past two mornings, I’ve been honored to co-host on Aimee+Shawn, as Aimee enjoys a much deserved vacation. The first morning… I made it to the station right on time at 5:00 a.m. No problem. I was so proud of myself.
Last night, I set all of my alarms – three physical alarm clocks, a minimum of 10 consecutive alarms on my phone, and my family had confirmed they would call me in the morning. I was all set…
I opened my eyes at 5:18 p.m. My phone was silent. My alarms were silent. The reality of my current situation sank in. The pit in my stomach formed instantaneously as I realized what I had done. In 40 minutes, I was supposed to be on air.
I hauled it from North Las Vegas and pulled up to the station just in the nick of time for our first segment. I was mortified. Thankfully, it all worked out, and my delayed arrival was a talking point throughout the morning on Aimee+Shawn. That pit is still sitting in my stomach, but it’s disappearing gradually as the morning continues.
There is one comfort I try to remember in these horrific moments: Even the best of the best are human, and, at some point, they have found themselves in similar situations.
But what a way to start the day.
