‘Rocketman’ Grosses $25M Opening Weekend
Rocketman faced a lot of competition during its opening weekend in the U.S., but it still fared well at the box office.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Rocketman grossed $25 million in its opening weekend and came in third behind Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin ($42.3 million) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters ($49 million.) Once factored into the international numbers, Rocketman has currently grossed $56.2 million according to Box Office Mojo.
For the sake of comparison, Bohemian Rhapsody $51 million made in its opening weekend in the United States, however, it was rated PG-13 compared to the R-rating of Rocketman. Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t as well-received by critics getting a 61 percent score from Rotten Tomatoes compared to Rocketman’s 91 percent. Both films, however, have high audience scores with 86 percent for Bohemian Rhapsody and 88 percent for Rocketman.
