Own A Kia Or Hyundai? Las Vegas Metro Has A Free Gift For You
Ah, TikTok. It’s brought us so many challenges that are trying to get our stuff broken, or our kids killed. The “Devious Licks” challenge had kids destroying their schools. There was “NyQuil Chicken” that’d make you sleepy after you ate it. Then there was the “Kia Challenge” that had young morons stealing Kia and Hyundai vehicles across the country. It’s that last one that has Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department handing out free theft deterrents.
Drivers who own Hyundai’s and Kia’s that are model year 2011 through 2021 can get free steering wheel locks. What are those? Do you remember the commercials for “The Club” back in the 90’s?
They are essentially a long metal pole you lock onto your steering wheel, that makes it pretty difficult, if not impossible, for a thief to steer the wheel fully in either direction. It will either hit the windshield, or center console, leaving the bad guys wishing they targeted a different car.
How do Las Vegas valley drivers get a free steering wheel lock for their Kia or Hyundai?
Drivers with a Nevada registration that matches their drivers license, and has a car that matches the model year range can get a free one while supplies last.
Las Vegas Metro’s E.A.C. (Enterprise Area Command) at 6975 West Windmill Lane in the southwest is the location to go by between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.
It’s worth noting, Kia and Hyundai are very aware of the issue and are working to rectify it. Cars that don’t have an immobilizer will get a free software upgrade that lengthens the time the alarm sounds, and requires the ignition switch to be turned on to turn the vehicle on.
While “The Club” is not the fashion statement we thought we’d be making in 2023, it’s nice there is something out there that will potentially keep our cars from getting jacked.
