You’re Only Allowed To Own This Many Pets In Las Vegas
For pet lovers, our precious dogs and cats are our treasures. You can never have too many… That is, unless you live in Las Vegas, where the number of pets you’re legally allowed to own is restricted.
Fortunately, if you’re just finding out about this rule, there is some good news. According to News 3, the City of Las Vegas is actually raising the number of dogs and cats that are allowed to reside in a single household. This change comes after City Counsel members chalked up a 4-2 vote on Wednesday, January 4th, to approve a bill in favor of raising the number of pets a person can own and take care of under one roof “without a specific permit.”
#lvcouncil approved a bill to increase the number of dogs or cats that can be kept at a particular place or residence from four to six without a specific permit.

The total number of pets allowed was raised from four to six in an effort to help our local animal shelters find loving, forever homes for their animals. Las Vegas shelters across the valley are currently hitting and exceeding maximum capacity following a recent uptick in animal intakes.
By raising the cap to six pets, the City is hopeful that the legal increase will encourage passionate pet owners to adopt and help our local shelters. News 3 reports that numerous shelters within the Las Vegas Valley reported reaching capacity “at several points last year,” including the Animal Foundation and Henderson Animal Shelter.
If you’re interested in providing a forever home to a potential furry family member, there has never been a better time to adopt. Hopefully, a noticeable increase in adoptions will be made over the course of the coming months. After all… the more the merrier!
