Las Vegas Has 2 Of The Best Speakeasies In America
Great nightlife is certainly a reason people head out to Las Vegas. And most of the big attractions in Vegas are well known to anyone who visits Sin City. But some of the cooler places are a bit under the radar. We’re talking about speakeasies. And two Vegas speakeasies were named by Fifty Grande as two of the best in America.
These days it is challenging to determine whether or not a place that brands itself as a speakeasy truly qualifies as that. Most likely they do have a proper liquor license (which is a good thing). However, a true speakeasy is a place that prefers not have to bright signage or their own social media accounts. We’re not saying that you need a certain secret knock or password to get in. But most speakeasies are somewhat hidden, reclusive, and comfortable. There’s certainly nothing wrong with having a secret door as well.
Once you are inside, each speakeasy has its own character. Still, it is common to be graced with an old-fashioned look. Wooden bar stools, small liquor shelves, historical photos, and maybe even some velvet often make up the décor. Nonetheless, the theme is often simplicity which may give a nod to the prohibition era.
“There’s something to be said for the speakeasies that still remain a little hidden, that don’t advertise and offer a little salacious adventure with their Sazeracs,” Fifty Grande states.
That’s exactly what you will find at these two speakeasies in Las Vegas.
The Underground
Appropriately named, The Underground is located at 300 Stewart Avenue. It is also a distillery. To further pay tribute to the infamous legendary speakeasies, this establishment contains a “Mob Museum.” This speakeasy is more of a tribute to that lifestyle from back in the 1920’s, as even their slogan is a nod, “you are only a password away.”
Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den
This speakeasy is part of the Zouk Group, that has seven unique establishments across the city. The Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den is located within Resorts World. In fact, it is literally within Famous Foods. The intent is for it to be a secret spot that guests are encouraged to try and find. Inside it is decorated with prohibition-inspired décor such as old-fashioned lamps, and vinyl benches. Their hours of operation are listed as 4:30 pm until “LATE.” The drink menu at this spot offers a variety of Hennessey options.
