Las Vegas Lights Soccer Team Bought By Former Baseball Star
Sports is big business. Whether it is professional, nationally televised, big four leagues or the minor leagues. Las Vegas went from the Las Vegas Wranglers to multiple major and minor league franchises. Las Vegas Lights FC is one of those minor league clubs, filling Cashman Field with scores of soccer fans. Now the team has a new owner with some major league cred.
Now former Lights owner Brett Lashbrook entered the market with a splash. On all of the newscasts, donning his team scarf around his neck and getting locals excited for a new team in town. He was guaranteeing victories. He was making it rain on his players and fans alike. Honestly, his work getting this United Soccer League franchise off the ground has been admirable.
But that said, the team never saw much success on the field. They never made it to the play-offs since launching in 2018. Last year, the team finished a disappointing 3-21-10. It is obvious that leadership had to change and a winning mentality needed to be injected into the team to allow it to not only survive, but thrive.
Enter José Bautista, the new owner of the Las Vegas Lights soccer team
While we know that Cashman Field is a former baseball field, it is a bit out of left field to see a Major League Baseball star take the reigns. But, again, sports is big business.
Big leaguer José Bautista, known most for his decade with Major League Baseball’s Toronto Blue Jays organization, has signed on the dotted line and bought the team from Brett. While he played baseball, José, originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is a big soccer fan.
In a statement, José wrote: “Since my retirement from professional baseball, I have witnessed the incredible growth of soccer in the United States, and I look forward to sharing my love of sports with the Las Vegas soccer community.”
It certainly looks like he is ready to foster and grow that community. Throughout the statement, José made it clear he wants to connect with the city and make this team successful and the city fall in love with the sport and the franchise.
Brett set the foundation, now it is up to José to start building up.
