My Expierence With The 5-Day Water Fast
I just finished a 5-day water fast, and, well… it was a journey. It wasn’t easy, but the results were worth it. In just five days, I lost 14 pounds, but the real benefit was how much clearer my mind and skin felt by the end.
The First 2.5 Days = A Struggle
The first couple of days were the most challenging I feel like day 2 was probably harder than day 1. During the first 2.5 days, I had lightheadedness and dizziness, which made me honestly question if I could even finish. It felt like my body was screaming for food, and the sudden change from regular eating to no eating at all was a shock to my system. But those feelings are normal (from what I read) during a fast because your body is adjusting to burning fat for energy instead of glucose.
Once I got past the hardest part, everything changed. By day three, I felt crazy mental clarity. For sure something I hadn’t had in a long time. My thoughts were sharper, I had better focus, and I was just…clear. The dizziness stopped, and I felt lighter. Lighter in both body and mind. I don’t even know if there are words to describe it. I also noticed that my face was clearer, almost like my skin was detoxed too from the water fast!
One of the most important parts of a water fast is how you break it. After five days of only water, your body is in an interesting state, and if you immediately jump back into your regular eating, you’ll probably gain the weight you lost back, and then some.
These are some of the things I did in hopes of keeping it off.
1. Start with Liquids: For the first day after the fast, I only consumed broth, fresh juices, and herbal teas. They say this is to give your digestive system a gentle restart.
2. Move to Soft Foods: On day two, I just had soft foods like smoothies, avocado, and steamed vegetables. By this point, I was so shocked with what we can make our bodies do. I didn’t even feel hungry at all.
3. Slowly back to Solid Foods: From day three post-water fast, I slowly started eating solid foods like lean proteins, grains, and healthy fats.
4. Hydration: Drinking lots and lots of water even after the fast. Try to make this a habit!
5. Get yourself a good workout routine: It’s always good to stay active. But make sure you listen to your body.
Fasting isn’t for everyone, it’s hard but I actually ended up enjoying it and enjoying the results even more. It was the mental clarity for me and the 14lb loss wasn’t too shabby either.
If you decide to try a water fast, be prepared for the first few days to be tough. But once you push through, the mental and physical rewards can be incredibly satisfying. Just remember that how you break the fast is as important as the fast itself. Take it slow. Happy Water Fasting.
