When Your Favorite Candle Fails You: A Lazy Person’s Guide to Returns
Let me start by saying I’m not one to return items. It’s not that I don’t care… I want to be a returner, it’s just that it is such a hassle for me. I either forget it at home, lose the receipt, or forget about it altogether. But just the other day, my favorite Bath and Body Works candle stopped burning (and it’s my Thanksgiving candle) the wicks are just not melting the wax anymore. Now it’s left me with a half-used, unscented glass jar.
Of course, my first instinct was to forget about it, give it a side-eye, and just think, “Well, that’s that.” But then I remembered that Bath and Body Works has a super generous return policy, it covers candles and many other products if you’re not completely satisfied. According to their policy or guide to returns, you can return pretty much any product, even a candle, if you feel it didn’t meet your sense of smell expectations.
So, I looked into it a bit more, asked my returner friends what their guide to returns was, and found out that some stores might have different policies for heavily used products, but Bath and Body Works generally stands by the quality of their products.
The best part? Bath and Body Works takes pride in their customer satisfaction and happy noses, so they’ll (most of the time) let you exchange or return a product like a candle—even if you’ve burned it a fair amount. Sure, it might have taken a bit of motivation to gather my candle, head to the store, and make the return, but hey, that’s one less item gathering dust in my cabinet and I will have a new Thanksgiving candle for the big meal!
Take it from me: sometimes it’s worth getting out of your return comfort zone. Be productive this holiday season. Take this guide to returns and go for the return!
