School District Permitting School Principals To Spank Students
It’s a debate that every pair of parents have… to spank their kids or not? Obviously it has fallen out of fashion over the years. But in on Missouri school district, not only is it back, but school administrators are getting their smackin’ arms ready.
The Cassville, MO School District is bringing back “corporal punishment” in the form of spanking, something that’s been off the books in the district for over two decades.
You’d think parents might be appalled by the green light to give their kid a smack… but surprisingly many are in favor. A survey was sent to parents last year and according to the district superintendent Merlyn Johnson, they are here for additional discipline beyond suspension.
The plan is to have levels of discipline before suspension (or worse) enters the picture, and just before suspension they may lean on spanking as a second-to-last resort. The principal will be the one to dole out the punishment, and will have a witness in the room.
They aren’t going to just let school staff brawl with your kids. Parents will be able to opt their kids in via a form they’d submit to the front office.
There is a limit to the amount of spanks as well. Younger kids get up to two. Older get up to three.
Believe it or not there is precedence for corporal punishment in schools, with the Supreme Court saying it was constitutional, and 19 states (mostly in the south) give it the A-O-K.
This had our listeners fired up this morning. The thought of letting someone other than them (or even themselves) hit their kid… not a big fan. What do you think? Would you sign off on letting the principal give your kid a whack?
