‘Frozen 2’ Songwriter Accused of Stealing Track from Indie Artist
It looks like the songwriters behind Disney’s “Frozen 2” are in hot water! According to legal docs, obtained by TMZ, musician Daniel Grigson first heard the song “Some Things Never Change” while watching “Frozen 2” in theaters at the end of November 2019 … and as the song was being performed, he says he got up out of his seat in shock. The docs say the track’s beat, rhythm, feel, theme, and words caught him off guard — because Grigson claims it’s basically IDENTICAL to his song, “That Girl,” from decades ago.
Grigson is now suing Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez — who created “Some Things Never Change” — for copyright infringement … claiming they jacked his work. He’s also suing Disney … alleging the company knowingly used his song without permission. In the docs, Grigson says he sent letters to both parties back in December 2019 giving them an opportunity to settle outside of court … but they never responded, so now he wants a jury trial. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out in court!
It looks like Disney and Robert Lopez are in for a legal battle! Independent musician Daniel Grigson is suing the pair for copyright infringement, alleging that they stole his 2001 track “That Girl” and used it in “Frozen 2.” Grigson claims he came to this conclusion while watching the movie with his child — after recognizing the similarities between the two songs. Grigson says his eyes were wide open while standing in the theater — once he sat back down with his head in his hands, he claims his 11-year-old daughter leaned over to him and said, “Dad, Disney took your song.”
