Train Derails In Barstow California: See The Shocking Photos
A train derailed near Barstow, Calif early Monday morning, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
According to the fire department, 55 cars and two locomotives were derailed. There were no injuries from the incident, and there were no passengers on the train, it was just cargo. One locomotive had a minor fuel leak that was being addresses by hazmat crew. However, the fire department said there wasn’t an active threat on the environment or public.
The train officially derailed in Kelso, which is 65 miles from the Arizona border. Fire officials first reported the incident around 11:20 a.m. near the intersection of Kelbaker Road and Kelso Cima Road.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the train carried iron ore and the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. while the train was cutting through the Mojave National Preserve, east of Barstow.
The train’s derailment caused a fire, according to the Los Angeles Times. However, the fire quelled, and officials were able to extinguish the fire completely.
The Los Angeles Times also reported that Union Pacific, which operates freight-hauling railroads across the U.S., was still investigating what led up to the incident. However, the Los Angeles Times did report that no train crew members were in control of the train when it derailed.

It seems that there has been an increase with trails derailing from their tracks.
On Sunday night, a train carrying hazardous material derailed in North Dakota. According to the Guardian, the Canada Pacific train spilled petroleum as it derailed. The accident happened when it was snowy and cold, which minimizes the threat. However, emergency response personnel and hazmat experts quickly responded to the toxic scene.
Although the Barstow derailment didn’t cause a spillage of toxic materials, this North Dakota incident is one out of a few toxic and poisonous spills.
The derailment in East Palestine, Ohio caused million of liters of industrial chemicals to spill in the town, which has a population of over 4,000 people, according to the United States Census Bureau.
