1,500 Additional Parking Spots Planned For Harry Reid International Airport
If you battled the catastrophe that was this past holiday season’s parking situation at Harry Reid International Airport, you are fully aware that Las Vegas‘ airport is in desperate need of additional parking. In great news, Harry Reid International has fully recognized this need as well, and in response, the airport plans to add a total of 1,500 parking spots for travelers to utilize.
According to Fox 5, these 1,500 parking spots will be added specifically to Harry Reid International Airport’s Terminal 1 parking. Nonetheless these spots will be available for any air travelers to utilize, no matter which terminal they are traveling out of/coming from.
Harry Reid International Airport is not magically making these spots appear out of thin air (although that would be pretty cool). The 1,500 additional parking spots will “replace current employee lots,” and these parking places that will soon be openly available for travelers to utilize will be a short walk from Terminal 1.
Of these 1,500 parking spots, Fox 5 reports that over 500 of the spots will be utilized for long-term parking in a parking structure, and the remaining 1,000 additional spots will be uncovered parking spots, offered as economy parking options.
But where will employees now park? I’m so glad you asked. With these new plans, workers and employees “will now park in a northern lot that is accessible to Terminal 1 from a walking path.”
Fortunately, the timeline on this project is expected to roll fairly quickly. The process of repaving will begin by the end of January, and when it’s all said and done, the parking project should be completed by the time Spring Break rolls around. If this timeline remains true throughout the process, this should alleviate and parking issues caused by those traveling during Spring Break.
That said, the project could potentially cause some traffic for those traveling to Terminal 1′s economy lot over the course of the next few months. While work is being completed on Harry Reid International Airport’s parking project, workers and travelers will have to share the current parking availability in the current economy lot. However, this is temporary, and these 1,500 spaces are projected to greatly help Harry Reid’s current limited parking situation, and the helpful project will hopefully be completed before we know it.
