Henderson OBGYN Accused Of Being Gross In Lawsuit
In the Netflix documentary Our Father, you learn of a fertility doctor using his own supply to impregnate several people. How many? The number may never be known for sure but one person said they had “over 3000 hits” on Ancestry.com. Yikes. It was that documentary that led Allison Vece to investigate her origin story. That has the estate of a late Henderson OBGYN in the crosshairs.
Henderson OBGYN Allegedly Helped Woman Get Pregnant With His Own Sperm
According to the report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Dr. Joseph Plautz is accused of impregnating the mother of Allison Vece and Kevin Phelps under false pretenses. In the mid-1980s, their mother Gayle Fedele was looking to have kids, but was seeking artificial insemination. Dr. Plautz allegedly knew of a sperm bank that could make that happen.
Fast forward to present day and that documentary. After watching, Allison asked her brother to pull up a DNA test he happened to take a while back. Turns out they both had a lot of relatives in common with the last name Plautz.
According to the lawsuit, the mother reached out to Dr. Plautz to get more information on the donor as health issues popped up that could be genetic. Dr. Plautz allegedly said the sperm bank, based in Wyoming, had a fire and all the records were lost.
There was no fire, says Allison. There was no withdrawal from that bank. Vece says Plautz was the bank.
Only one problem: Dr. Joseph Plautz is dead. He passed away back in 2015.
Regardless, there are still legal grounds to sue the estate he left behind for damages for “fertility fraud”. Several other accusations like negligence, battery and deceptive trade practices are also named in the lawsuit.
Lawsuits like this have happened before in the state, but with living defendants.
