Men Accused In Lake Mead Rock Destruction Indicted
We are so blessed in Southern Nevada to be surrounded by absolutely beautiful nature. Everywhere you turn is another path, red rock or hidden gem. Keeping it alive depends on each of us to do our part to “leave no trace”. Unfortunately, people suck. Case in point, two men were just indicted by a federal grand jury over the Lake Mead rock destruction that was caught on camera earlier this year.
The two men are identified as 37 year old Wyatt Clifford Fain and 31 year old Payden David Guy Cosper. They have been arrested by the United States Marshals Service according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The allegedly bumbling pair are each charged with a count of “injury and depredation of government property” along with another count of aiding and abetting, which essentially says that one was knowingly helping the other in committing a crime.
While both were in front of a judge on Friday and pled not guilty, and they both were allowed to walk on a bond that was simply a promise to show up to their next date, their problems have only just begun.
If convicted, each alleged dolt faces up to 10 years in prison for their heinous stunt. That’s serious business.
Lake Mead Rock Destruction Caught On Camera
Video of the incident spread on social media in the hours and days that followed. It showed two oafs shoving rock formations that were likely north of 100 million years old, tumbling down to a terrible end.
The community was absolutely outraged by the act and everyone wanted to know why, and more importantly who, would do such a thing. Now it appears as though we may know.
Both men are expected back in court on October 8th. But one thing is certain… they’ll never be able to put it back the way it was.
