5 Things I’ve Learned From My Dog About Living My Best Life
Have you ever looked at your dog just lying around straight chilling? Just happy and unaware of the chaos in the world, and thought, “Hmm, my dog really has it figured out”? Dogs have the ability to live their best lives, and honestly, they could teach us humans a thing or two (or ten) about how to enjoy life to the fullest.
Here are ten important lessons I’ve learned from my furry friend about living my best life straight from my sweet little furbaby, Mack.
1. Naps Are Non-Negotiable
Dogs know the secret to a good life – naps and lots of them. (At the time of this post I need a nap actually.) Morning naps, afternoon naps, after dinner naps. Don’t ask why as why not? My dog has taught me that sometimes, the best way to deal with life is to just take a nap. Got a long to-do list? Nap. Feeling stressed? Nap. World on fire? Nap. Recharge, reset, and repeat!
2. Be Excited About Snacks
If there’s one thing my dog has mastered, it’s the art of getting excited about food. Every. Single. Time. Imagine if we looked at every meal with the same excitement? It doesn’t matter the treat or not even necessarily a treat but anything that just happens to fall on the floor. She doesn’t worry about calories she just lives in the moment and eats what she wants.
3. Live In The Moment
My dog is the happiest creature alive when rolling around in the grass, tongue out, paws in the air. It doesn’t matter if she’s in the park, in our backyard, or even in dirt if she feels like it. She finds joy in the little things. Why are we not doing this? Not literally rolling in the grass (unless you want to), but really just finding happiness in all the little things?
4. Always Greet People Like You Haven’t Seen Them In Years
Whether I’ve been gone for five minutes or five hours, my girl runs to me like I’ve just got back from a ten-year long trip. Every time. Imagine how loved we’d all feel if we acted with as much love and excitement. So, the next time you see someone you love. Do what your dog would do. But don’t pee on the floor.
5. Protect Your Loved Ones Even From The Garbage Truck
Dogs are natural protectors. They’ll bark at anything that seems remotely sus… whether it’s a stranger at the door or a plastic bag blowing in the wind. Humans could learn to be more protective of our loved ones, too, even if that means standing up for them when a scary-looking loud garbage truck drives by the house.
There you go… things I’ve learned from my dog about living my best life. They may be just dogs but let them teach you a thing or two. I think you’ll be better for it.
