Deck The Cars But Beware: Drivers Ticketed for Holiday Lights
The holiday season is here and in full swing. I am a huge fan of decorating inside the house outside the house, I even love a good set of antlers on cars that I see driving around town. But some drivers are going to the extreme. Some would say that it’s overboard. They are decking out their vehicles with holiday lights. Like actually covering them in Christmas lights.
But people doing this, if being caught by the cops, are getting ticketed. Authorities say that it brings up safety concerns. I get it, when I see them on the streets I definitely get distracted…but everything distracts me. They also say that having holiday lights on your cars violates local vehicle codes. I haven’t heard of any tickets being given out here in Las Vegas yet, but I’m sure there have been some.
Deck The Halls With Holiday Lights But Not The Cars
Decorating your car is a fun way to spread cheer that’s for sure but drivers should definitely check your local regulations before hitting the road with a car covered in holiday lights. Rules normally prohibit non-standard lighting that could confuse other drivers or even mimic emergency vehicles. Don’t shoot the messenger because I think they look amazing but just letting you know there could be hefty fines not to mention safety risks. Save the lights for your house and driveway. Maybe decorate it for a local Christmas parade!
As Vegas residents embrace glittering holiday traditions in town, maybe consider other things like driving through events like Glittering Lights instead of transforming your car into a moving light parade.
