CCSD Board Trustee Katie Williams Doesn’t Live Here: DA
Where In The World Is Katie Williams? We know you probably sang that along to Rockapella’s rendition of Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego, an educational show. Not to be confused with CCSD which is another type of show involving education. Now after an investigation, it has been found that CCSD Board Trustee Katie Williams in fact does not live in the valley anymore and her seat will be vacated.
That is the decision of Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson and Clark County Counsel Lisa Logsdon. The two were tapped to investigate after multiple people alleged that CCSD Board Trustee Katie Williams was no longer living in the valley, as is required of the position, and instead was dialing in using video teleconferencing from Nebraska.
Seriously. She actually announced that she had taken a job with a law firm based in Nebraska on her own social media. When that Nebraska law firm was called, the person that answered said she was out to lunch but works Monday through Friday.
The Letter Sent To CCSD Board Trustee Katie Williams
“The District Attorney’s office is now prepared to commence a proceeding to declare the office of Clark County School District Board of Trustee District B vacant due to you ceasing to be an actual resident of the State of Nevada and ceasing to be an actual resident of District B of the Clark County School District,” states the letter sent from Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson. Hopefully she has her mail forwarded.
How frustrating, considering the significant issues that the Clark County School District faces on a daily basis. She has a legal duty to live in the district she represents, which is District B which extends from parts of North Las Vegas, Mesquite and Moapa.
While it is worth noting she was not seeking re-election in 2024 (her seat is open in November), she is still ineligible to hold office after leaving her district. Which is why President Joe Biden can’t move to Spain quite yet.
Of course, you would hope the people in charge of our education were smart enough to know this. Alas. Soon to be former CCSD Board Trustee Katie Williams has until September 9th to respond to the letter and we are waiting with baited breath. The people in charge of choosing the next CCSD Superintendent should at least live here.
